What is Ahivim?

Ahivim is a New York State non-profit that provides services for individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities through NYS OPWDD (Office for People with Developmental Disabilities) and behavioral health through NYS OMH (Office of Mental Health).

What is OPWDD?

OPWDD is New York State’s Medicaid-funded program that provides services for New Yorkers living with developmental disabilities through nonprofit agencies, like Ahivim.
OPWDD provides waiver services to individuals with a variety of conditions, including intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism spectrum disorders, TBI, and other neurological impairments.

What is a developmental disability?

Developmental disabilities are a group of conditions due to an impairment in physical, learning, language, or behavior areas. These conditions begin during the developmental period and may impact day-to-day functioning. Developmental disabilities usually last throughout a person’s lifetime.

What is OMH?

The Office of Mental Health (OMH) is under the New York State’s multifaceted health system. They operate psychiatric centers across the State, regulating, certifying, and overseeing more than 4,500 programs operated by local governments and nonprofit agencies like Ahivim.
The OMH focuses on providing hope and recovery for adults with serious mental illness and children with severe emotional disturbances.

What is behavioral health?

Behavioral health generally refers to mental health and substance use disorders including depression, anxiety, and addiction. Behavioral health care refers to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of those conditions.

Who is eligible for Ahivim’s services?

Individuals that are approved for services by the OPWDD or HCBS are eligible for Ahivim’s services. Not yet approved by the OPWDD for services? We guide families through the eligibility process, arrange evaluations, submit documentation, and help with anything else needed to become approved for our services.

How do I know if my child is eligible for services?

How old do I need to be to qualify for services?

Ahivim’s services are available to children and adults from birth with no age limitations.

Do I need to pay for Ahivim’s services?

As an NYS Medicaid provider, our services are funded by New York State Medicaid. Individuals eligible for Medicaid qualify for our services totally free of charge.
In the event that an individual receives a service without Medicaid coverage, they are legally liable to pay for the service.
